“Time for an Awakening” with Bro.Elliott & Bro.Richard, Sunday 2/04/2024 at 7:00 PM our guest was Professor of Communication and Africana Studies at Morgan State University, Prof. Jared A. Ball. The discussion centered around Prof. Ball’s book, The Myth And Propaganda of Black Buying Power, and how the claims of “Buying Power” and the impact of this myth have been on understanding media, race, class, and economics in the United States. Always conversations on issues and topics that affect Black People locally, nationally, and internationally.
Thanks To TFAA & Dr. Ball for a great discussion on current economic issues impacting Black Americans. I agree that connecting land to economic development is inseparable, as each complement the other in the process of creating & multiplying wealth. Land is money, because money is defined as “anything” that has intrinsic value. Even ideas have intrinsic value, once given an identity and purpose. Land has intrinsic value, can be used for many constructive, wealth-building activities and retains its value over generations. The essence of reparations, if sincerely carried out by responsible parties, would be that of returning stolen land to our people and allowing the growth of local economies to sustain ourselves without interruption, just as many other non-black ethnic groups are allowed in building self-sustaining communities. I would even advocate for city-building efforts as viable long-term solutions, which would allow for an advantage for the next generation (5-35 years). Under the current system, the odds are stacked against us in so many ways, so we are never going to reach parity with other ethnic groups that are automatically given certain advantages over us.
