The Context of White Supremacy hosts the debut study session on Jack Olsen’s Last Man Standing: The Tragedy and Triumph of Geronimo Pratt. Last week we completed our study of the O.J. Simpson criminal trial. Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. was a central figure to that case and he’ll be front and center in this investigation as well. In fact, the Los Angeles Police Department and district attorney’s office will also be familiar characters. Pratt was a Vietnam veteran who returned to join The Black Panther Party. He became a vital member of his California chapter which made him a priority target for the FBI’s COINTELPRO program. We’ll learn a lot about what it takes for Whites to cage an innocent black male for half his life.
