The C.O.W.S. Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man Part 7

Friday, June 15th 8:00PM Eastern/ 5:00PM Pacific

The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 7th study session on Ralph Ellison’s 1952 classic, Invisible Man. Gus T’s all-time favorite book, Ellison’s masterpiece was selected for the 1953 National Book Award and has been reviewed and celebrated internationally for 75 years. The narrative follows an unnamed black male as he toils through the chaos and terrorism of White Supremacy (Racism). Last week’s installment saw the main character being subjected to medical butchers, who experimented on him after he was knocked unconscious by an explosion in the paint factory. The White doctors subject him painful electrical shocks in order to make him a “new man.” This nameless new man staggers away from the factory jobless, and luckily meets a black female who’s willing to nurse the young male back to health. Ms. Mary reminds the protagonist of his own family and Southern roots that he’s left behind to pursue college and New York fantasies. His dreams of black liberation and easy living in the big city were shattered when he came across an elderly black couple being evicted, their meager possessions hurled into the winter snow.
