Today is the September, 27th, 2017 broadcast of New Abolitionists Radio
• On this day in September 27, 1966, a riot broke out in San Francisco’s Hunters Point, a black neighborhood, when a white police officer shot and killed a seventeen-year-old African American teen, Matthew Johnson, Jr., This resulted in the national guard being called out to allay white fears of a black rebellion.
• Tonight, we’ll try and unpack some social and cognitive issues while covering the articles of the day. I’ll also speak about some of the movements current agendas and objectives. We’ll even call out a few folks by name and ask hard questions about their activism efforts.
• Our Abolitionist in Profile is The North Carolina Quakers who at one point were the largest slaveholders in North Carolina.
In the segment ‘For Freedom’s Sake. A History of Rebellion.’ We remember “The Servants Plot” September 1st, 1663 which is described as the 1st serious conspiracy plot by enslaved blacks.
• Our Rider of the 21st Century Underground Railroad is former suburban Chicago man Jason Strong, 42. His conviction for a 1999 murder was thrown out because of invalid evidence will receive $9 million in a settlement with law enforcement agencies involved in the case.
