The Context of White Supremacy hosts the debut study session on the 2017 autobiography of the late Coretta Scott King: My Life, My Love, My Legacy. Mrs. King, who passed away in 2006, told her story to acclaimed journalist, Rev. Dr. Barbara Reynolds. The New Orleans Tribune lauded the new book, characterizing it a fitting read for the current climate of open hostility and “emboldened” White Supremacy. The book chronicles Mrs. King determined effort to establish a federal holiday in honor of her late husband, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We details about her experience as a black mother, caring for children without the help of her slain husband. The book also documents her labor to establish the King Center – a museum which honors the life work of Dr. King. We’ll compare this text to some of the other biographies we’ve covered on the book club – Maya Angelou, Assata Shakur, Malcolm X.
