The U.N. Working Group on Arbitrary Detention held a 13-day visit to the United States for the purpose to examine instances and conditions of arbitrary detention across the country. During the visit, they met with with civil society advocates, victims, lawyers, judges, researchers, and directly impacted people. Vickie Casanova Willis, President of the National Conference of Black Lawyers will recall that visit, the contribution of the NCBL and the road ahead to guarantee human rights and fundamental freedoms.
