Today is apparently Constitution Day in the USA and the social media hashtag #ConstitutionDay2016. Famed Abolitionists Frederick Douglass was asked to give a speech on the 4th of July to which he gave a speech refereed to as “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” which he gave on July 5, 1852.

In 2004 a federal holiday marking September 17th or a weekday adjacent to it, Constitution Day or Citizen’s Day”. It was passed as part of the pork barrel spending bill known as Omnibus.

The law also mandated public schools teach about the US constitution. However, as modern abolitionists we must echo Douglass on this day and ask “What is US Constitution to the victims of the 13th Amendment?”.

The 13th Amendment of the US Constitution while said to have been passed to abolish slavery actually legalized the institution of slavery making it allowable as punishment for crime. Today, the United States has the world’s largest prison slave labor force that private corporations exploit like they have always done along wit the federal and state governments.

Right this very moment victims of modern slavery on prison plantations across the USA are staging work stoppages in protest of prison slavery.

  1. 13th amendment with the 20 sections. The 12th section explain the Africans position.

    1. That was never ratified and the only 13th Amendment that has been ratified and just recently by Alabama is the 13th Amendment with 2 sections. The fact is, slavery has never been abolished and after reviewing the one with 20 sections, it too includes exception clauses for slavery and/or involuntary servitude as punishment for “crime”. So either way you look at it, slavery is perfectly legal and being practiced. Now, what are those opposed to slavery going to do?
