Tonight we will be joined by Imani Brown and Dorian Barnwell from Columbia Prison Divest. The group is working to force Columbia University to divest of its investments into 21st Century slavery and Human Trafficking. Check out their petition on Change.org.
They specifically state that they want “Columbia to immediately divest all shares from CCA and G4S, and provide a public statement confirming its divestment from these corporations. We want Columbia to adopt a permanent negative screen for CCA, G4S, and the GEO Group (the second largest private prison company in the U.S.) to confirm that Columbia will not invest in these companies in the future.”
After we speak with out guest, we will share more news stories reporting on various aspects of 21st Century Slavery and Human Trafficking where human life is not valued except as a commodity.
We will look at Alaska’s constitution and what it says or does not say about abolishing slavery.
Our abolitionist’s profile will be James McCune Smith (April 18, 1813 – November 17, 1865).
