Concerned students and faculty at the University of Missouri are being referred to by conservative media and Lt. Gov Peter Kinder as a mob forcing their extreme demands through extreme methods. Lt. Gov Peter Kinder in the past has used the word “mob” to refer to Black people and whoever would join them to seek redress of grievances as he called Al Sharpton an “inciter of mobs” in 2014.
Kinder was on a conservative radio show on 104.1 KSGF hosted by Nick Reed on Monday where the radio host sought to portray white people as victims comparable to the Black character in the book “To Kill A Mockingbird”. Nick Reed told his listening audience there was no evidence of racism on campus and suggested that the protesters are making up things.
However, there is a timeline of events posted by columbiamissourian.com which is a website Kinder mentioned during the interview with Reed. Let us take a listen to this propaganda media that reveals the talking points suspected racists are using to spin the events that led up to UM System President Tim Wolfe’s resignation.
In related news, professional football players in the NFL including former Missouri student-athletes are speaking out in support of the student-athletes taking up social causes and an article from USA Today suggest that student-athletes and professional athletes are recognizing their societal clout. Athletes taking up social causes is nothing new as black and white athletes in the past have stood up and used their celebrity to speak out on racial injustices. It is a positive development in the fight against systemic racism that athletes seemingly are rediscovering social consciousness.
The New Orleans NAACP is taking politician and Republican gubernatorial candidate David Vitter to task for what they say is a campaign ad that plays up racial overtones portraying the federal government’s planned release of up to 6,000 non-violent drug offenders as “thugs”. Nevermind that Vitter himself escaped arrest for paying for sex when it was revealed he was among the clients of the DC Madame.
Joining Vitter in his campaign to demonize non-violent victims of America’s so-called “War on Drugs” is former politician turned political operative, is the proxy racism tool known as Allen West. Like Vitter, West escaped prosecution in the military after he tortured and assaulted an Iraqi prisoner and faced up to 11 years in prison. Instead of prosecution, Allen West made a deal to resign his commission in the US Army, keep his pension and freedom. Perhaps Vitter and West are unaware that most of the non-violent drug offenders in US jails and prisons are US military Veterans.
