The Context of White Supremacy hosts our 11th – and final – study session on The Autobiography of Malcolm X: As Told To Alex Haley (1965). Without answers for Freddie Gray’s death and Baltimore, Maryland in flames, the counsel of El Hajj Malik El Shabazz would be appreciated. Fifty years ago, Minister Malcolm predicted a year of violent eruptions in response to White Terrorism. 2015 has much in common with 1965. Last week’s session described Minister Malcolm’s return to the United States. He emphasized that he no longer indicted all Whites as Racist; his travels abroad revealed that there were White Muslims who did not oppose Justice, black people. His impending murder infects the concluding chapters of the text, where Min. Malcolm acknowledges the closeness of death. Alex Haley provided insightful post-script offerings as well. We’ll surmise this landmark work and exchange our concluding assessments. As we continue, listeners are advised to keep this text in mind when searching for patience to share with black people.
