The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Abraham Khan. Dr. Khan is an Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida. He holds a joint appointment in the Department of Communications and the Department of Africana Studies. His research interests are rhetoric, social justice and history of sports. As Seattle Seahawks’ Richard Sherman galvanized mass attention on Racism and athletics, we’ll get Dr. Khan’s historical perspective on how Racism is manifested and discussed in the context of White people’s ball games. We’ll review his 2012 publication, Curt Flood In The Media: Baseball, Race, and the Demise of the Activist Athlete. Like Sherman, a significant number of Whites viewed Flood as an overpaid black athlete, potentially ruinous for the sport. From Serena Williams to Gabrielle Douglas, cotton or ball fields, White Terrorism rules.
