Chicago PD denies it used building to torture people taken into custody

The Chicago Police Department is denying media reports that they used a building to take people it had detained and tortured them while denying them access to an attorney. The practice has been compared to the numerous secret sites around the world the CIA uses to take its kidnap  victims and reportedly torture and in some cases kill them.

According to a website for cops,

The Police Department issued a statement in response to the Tuesday story in The Guardian. The department said violence does not happen as a part of interviews with suspects or anyone else and that lawyers have access to any clients at the West Side facility. The site also houses the department’s Bureau of Organized Crime, SWAT unit evidence technicians and the CPD ballistics lab, the department said.

“CPD abides by all laws, rules and guidelines pertaining to any interviews of suspects or witnesses, at Homan Square or any other CPD facility,” department spokesman Martin Maloney said in a statement. “If lawyers have a client detained at Homan Square, just like any other facility, they are allowed to speak to and visit them. It also houses CPD’s Evidence Recovered Property Section, where the public is able to claim inventoried property.”

Of course the Chicago Police Department is denying everything, that is to be expected as the department has a long sordid history of torturing hundreds of people in order to get them to confess to crimes they did not commit and according to one of the victims of the torture squad run by retired Police Commander Jon Burge,  Mark Clements has stated that victims of the torture to obtain confessions are still behind bars and the city of Chicago and Cooke county are engaged in continuing to cover up the crimes committed by Burge and those under his command.

It was recently revealed that a former Chicago police detective named Richard Zuley has been accused of engaging in torturing prisoners at the infamous Guantanamo Bay prison where he was stationed as a naval reservist.

Given the Chicago Police Department long sordid history that includes assassinating activist Fred Hampton, it is more likely true than not that, the department operated or is operating a torture ring at Homan Square. The building is not a police precinct so what reason would the Chicago Police have to transport suspects there. The victims and attorneys who told their stories to the media about this CPD torture site have more credibility than the Chicago Police whose members past and present have never been held criminally responsible for their crimes against humanity.
