The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Matt Gryta. A long time west New York resident, Gryta retired after decades of journalism in the Buffalo, New York region. He invested more than four decades as a staff writer for the Buffalo News and has written a number of “true crime” books. Gus is “still learning” and belatedly discovered that Gryta also wrote The Four Angels, which documents the 1978 murder of four black children by their mother, Gail Trait. We’ll discuss Gryta’s Joey 22, where the veteran journalist investigates the 1980’s White Terrorist Joseph G. Christopher. Payton Gendron’s May 2022 Terrorist attack at an east Buffalo Tops supermarket left 10 black people dead, but no White-dominated media outlets acknowledged the historical context and similarities to Christopher’s savagery in the very same city. We’ll discuss theories about Christopher having a homosexual fetish for black males, which may have inspired his desire to kill and mutilate dark skin non-white males – mostly those designated black.
