The Context of White Supremacy hosts the debut study session on Philip K. Dick’s The Man in the High Castle. Published in 1962, Dick’s award-winning science fiction novel is lauded as one of the greatest of all time. Amazon adapted the fiction for season for their streaming platform, and it seduced audiences for four seasons. Gus discussed this book/series with third generation Physician Dr. Frances Cress Welsing before she passed away. Dr. Welsing highlighted the use of Nazi paraphernalia to promote this series and the insatiable White appetite for content involving Adolf Hitler’s regime. Gus is a bit surprised to see that there are a lot of anti-asian slurs in the text. Like the billion dollar franchise The Planet of the Apes, both books were written during the middle of the so-called “anti-colonial” and “civil rights movements.” These books may represent the fears and anxieties of White readers and viewers.
