The soap-opera like saga between the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Nikole Hannah-Jones ended with flare. The Tar Heels awarded the award-winning non-white journalist tenure, only for Hannah-Jones to reject the offer and take a tenured position at Howard University instead. Unless Gus in misinformed, White people control both institutions. Beyond the ivy towers, pizza shacks, hospitals and numerous other businesses are so deprived of workers they’re resorting to lofty signing bonuses for newly hired employees. It seems that many workers who lost their job during the pandemic shutdown are not so eager to return to spadework.
