Wanda Sykes Leaves Show After Roseanne Barr’s Racist & Islamphobic Tweet
Comedian Wanda Sykes tweeted that she won’t return to the reboot of “Roseanne” next season.
This comes after a fiery tweet sent by Roseanne Barr on Tuesday morning. She compared former President Barack Obama’s advisor, Valerie Jarrett, to an ape.
Her tweet was sent out in response to a Twitter thread about Jarrett covering up CIA spying on French political candidates in the 2012 election which was revealed by Wikileaks in 2017. While Democrats are in a tizzy over alleged unsubstantiated meddling in the 2016 American election, President Obama himself cut a campaign ad for the current French President.
However, there is no excuse for Roseanne’s racist and Islamophobic tweet that read, “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj”.
Although Roseanne initially called her comment a joke tried to whitesplain by saying, “Muslims r NOT a race,” she faced swift backlash on Twitter. She eventually tweeted, ” (I’m) now leaving Twitter.” She also apologized for “making a bad joke about her politics and her looks.”
No word on if Wanda Sykes decision to leave the show was solely based on Roseanne’s tweet.
Update: ABC has canceled the show.
