The Continental Free Trade Area Deal Could Increase Economic Power of Africa
The Continental Free Trade Area deal is the most ambitious effort to free up trade flows within the African continent in decades, but it is far from a done deal. The deal needs to be approved at country level, by national legislators, and protectionist instincts there could easily derail it. 44 countries signed the treaty earlier in March, but Nigeria and South Africa – the continent’s 2 largest economies – weren’t among them.
