The family of Korryn Gaines was awarded by a jury, $37 million dollars in a civil lawsuit alleging that Ms. Gaines and her son’s federal civil rights were violated. “A Baltimore County jury on Friday awarded more than $37 million in damages in the civil lawsuit brought by the family of Korryn Gaines, the 23-year-old Randallstown woman who was shot and killed by county police after a six-hour standoff in 2016.” Read more…
In other news, Nikolas Cruz, the suspect in the recent school shooting in Florida where 17 people were killed, had a history of practicing racism and committing acts of violence. Racist comments posted by Cruz in “a private Instagram group chat, 19-year-old Cruz wrote that he hated “jews, n****rs, immigrants,” according to CNN. He was reported for Domestic violence and communicating threats by at least one student to the Broward school district. Prior to the shooting at least two reports were made to the FBI about statements made by Cruz but were not taken seriously by the agency. While the usual parties debate gun control legislation, there were plenty of warnings that Cruz might take the actions that he did and society seems to have sought to protect the future of a young white supremacist in training at the expense of everyone else.” Read more…
