The C.O.W.S. Compensatory Call-In 2/17/18

The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. We’ll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We’ll examine news reports from the past seven days and – hopefully – promote a constructive dialog. 

#ANTIBLACKNESS

The roman-antics of St. Valentine’s Day were interrupted by yet another gun-toting White Man. Nikolas Cruz, 19, has been arrested and charged with killing 17 people during a school shooting in Parkland, Florida. Unlike Miriam I. Carey, Walter Scott and an infinite number of unarmed Black victims of police violence, Cruz was taken into custody unharmed. CNN reports that Cruz used social media to “[hurl] slurs at blacks and Muslims… and had ties to White Supremacists.” Multiple tragedies struck during the middle of Black History Month, as legendary author and journalist Lerone Bennett Jr. died this week at the age of 89. The former editor of JET and Ebony magazines, Bennett penned nearly a dozen books, including: Before the Mayflower: A History of Black America and Forced into Glory: Abraham Lincoln’s White Dream. Illustrations of black people abounded this week, as portraits of Barack and Michelle Obama were revealed – the latter depicted holding a decapitated head. And Marvel’s Black Panther flick continues to dominate the silver screen.
