The C.O.W.S. Frantz Fanon: THE WRETCHED OF THE EARTH Part 5

The Context of White Supremacy hosts the fifth study session on Frantz Fanon’s 1961 seminal book, The Wretched of the Earth. Born in Martinique in 1925, Fanon is an internationally celebrated psychiatrist and committed his brief 36 years of life to ending White rule. He fought for Algerian independence from French colonial oppression and black liberation world wide. Fanon also authored Black Skin, White Mask, which is a psychoanalysis of the perversions and neurosis of sexual activity between Whites and black people. Interestingly, Fanon himself married to a White woman. The writer and psychiatrist died from leukemia the same year The Wretched of the Earth was published. Last week’s session examined the prospects and benefits of spontaneously striking out against White rule. Significantly, Fanon noted that powerful Whites “analyze the forces of rebellion” aimed against their system of injustice. He also observed that Racists deployed armed White brutes and Christian missionaries to fortify their dominion over Black people. Fanon consistently acknowledged the shrewdness of White Supremacy, pointing out that Whites are skillfully able to fabricate the appearance of racial progress, while maintaining White power.
