Tonight our guest will be the mother of Tyre King. Malay Gee. Malay is a New Abolitionist and it’s important that her story be heard from her perspective. Much like Shooting of Tamir Rice in Cleveland, 13-year-old Tyre King was fatally shot by Columbus, Ohio, police for allegedly having a BB Gun and pointing it at officers. Witnesses report that Officer Bryan Mason — having just fired three shots into King’s slight pre-adolescent body — called him a “Stupid N****r”.
Witnesses also say Tyre never pulled a gun. Fake or otherwise. He simply got up and ran AFTER being accosted and was gunned down. Saying; “We got down, but my friend got up and ran … [and] when he ran, the cop shot him.” “His account has not changed. In a comment the day after the shooting posted to Facebook from an account confirmed to be the teen’s by the source, Braxton insists not only did the 13-year-old never brandish the BB gun at the cop, he never pulled it from his person at all. ” from Claire Bernish article in the freethought project.

• On this day in 1974 disgraced anti-black and racist president Richard Nixon left office Having announced his resignation the day before, he stepped down from the presidency of the United States and was succeeded by Vice President Gerald R. Ford. A man who had never been a part of any election or campaign. An appointed president. Richard Nixon was the architect of the failed war on drugs. A war that was later admittedly created to target blacks and anti-war activists.
• Also on this day in History, Mike Brown was fatally shot and killed in Ferguson Missouri. Starting a firestorm that has yet to be extinguished.

• Our Rider of the 21st Century Underground Railroad Anthony Ray Hinton who was exonerated and released from death row over two years ago. Alabama lawmakers have not only refused to compensate him for the three decades he spent on death row for a crime he did not commit, but also passed legislation changing the appeals process in death penalty cases so that innocent people like Mr. Hinton now face an even greater risk of being executed.

The Creole Case was the result of an American slave revolt in November 1841 on board the Creole, a ship involved in the United States coastwise slave trade. As a consequence of the revolt, 128 enslaved people won their freedom in the Bahamas, then a British possession. Because of the number of people eventually freed, the Creole mutiny was the most successful slave revolt in U.S history.
