Despite efforts to call off an act of civil disobedience on Labor Day, a few protesters successfully blocked I-270 for 4 minutes to symbolize the number of hours Ferguson police left Michael Brown’s bullet ridden body in the street.
In 1963 grassroots organizers planned to shutdown highways and airports in Washington, DC until the March on Washington was taken over by civil rights organizations funded by wealthy whites to stop any disruptions to business in Washington, DC. Imagine if instead of calling for passive economic boycotts, the people decided to shut down traffic around shopping malls in an act of civil disobedience during the shopping season to make politicians repeal the racist drug war and remove the slavery exception clause as punishment for so-called crime legalized by the 13th Amendment.
