Thousands in Chile protest pot prohibition

Thousands of protesters marched through Santiago, Chile calling for an end to cannabis prohibition. Protesters want the consumption of cannabis to be decriminalized and want the right to be able to grow the plant for private use. Protesters smoked cannabis, played music and held up banners as they paraded through the streets of Santiago.
The protest in Chile is a sign of the global movement to end the global prohibition of a plant that has been proven to have medicinal use and less dangerous than legal drugs like alcohol. However, because the plant is the most popular drug of choice, nations like the United States use its prohibition to target and incarcerate its non-white populations and it is a big part of maintaining the prison industrial complex.
