Militant Minded Radio welcomes back Hip-Hop artivist Jasiri Xtra to discuss human rights issues concerning the Palestinians and the Israelis. In a track and video released in January of 2014 titled “Checkpoint”, Jasiri X refers to Israel as an apartheid government.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister two days ago issued threats against the Palestinians to do what ever it takes to prevent them from exercising their international right to seek statehood. Netanyahu is not alone and issuing threats, some U.S. lawmakers threatened to pass laws barring U.S. financial aid in retaliation for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas signing more than a dozen international conventions.
Four days prior to Netanyahu’s threats of “unilateral” action, Representative Kay Granger, a Texas Republican sought to pressure the Obama administration into a harsh reaction to the Palestinians joining several UN agencies in saying “The administration must send a clear message to the Palestinians that the only path to statehood is through a negotiated agreement with Israel, not through unilateral attempts at the U.N.,”
Samantha Power, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in a House subcommittee hearing on the U.N. budget said, “We will need to see what it is they have submitted,” and then decide a appropriate response.
We’ll ask Jasiri Xtra what he thinks about it all and get some of the details of what he witnessed when he visited Palestine and the message in the music of his song “Checkpoint”.
