DC Mayor signs bill decriminalizing pot
Washington, DC Mayor Vincent Gray signed the cannabis decriminalization bill on Monday, which was passed last month by the DC city council. Before becoming law, the U.S. Congress has 60 working days to object to the bill but cannot stop it unless passes a resolution blocking it and then President Obama must sign it.
“DC lawmakers heard loud and clear the public’s demand to end marijuana arrests and passed one of the strongest decriminalization laws in the whole country, said Grant Smith, policy manager with the Drug Policy Alliance.
