The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. We’ll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We’ll examine news reports from the past seven days and – hopefully – promote a constructive dialog.
#ANTIBLACKNESS
The sole purpose of the 2014 holiday commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was seemingly to permit additional time for conversation on Seattle Seahawks’ cornerback Richard “General” Sherman. A group of black scholars at the University of Michigan used the day to address ongoing racism on their campus (#BBUM); simultaneously, a group of White students at Arizona State University took time to mock black people. Racist Suspect and pop sensation Justin Bieber was arrested for drag racing while under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, and prescription medication; thus far Bieber, has not been branded a thug, ghetto or a nigger. Justin Simien’s new film, Dear White People, jostled Sundance Film Festival audiences. And Madiba (Nelson Mandela) has barely been laid to rest, and tens of thousands of black miners are on strike from South Africa’s Lonmin corporation – pittance wages are hard to reconcile. 70 years later, the execution of 14-year-old George Stinney also remains unreconciled.
