Press Release: Generation Dream 2009 Will Honor Dr. King’s Legacy

On Thursday, January 22, 2009 a diverse group of youth performers, along with a number of adult professional artists, will present Generation Dream 2009. This fourth annual Edu-concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the VCU Singleton Performing Arts Center, 922 Park Avenue. The 90-minute show is part of Living the Dream, Richmond’s annual commemoration of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The public is invited; a $3 donation per family is requested to help defray expenses.

As in past years, the audience can expect an inspiring event, presented in a lively, variety show format. The performance will consider Dr. King’s legacy of peace, nonviolence and social justice, and look forward towards what may be achieved in the years ahead.

Generation Dream 2009 will include percussion by Drums No Guns, original spoken word performances by young people from the Richmond Youth Peace Project (RYPP) and Richmond Youth Slam; dance by Richmond Ballet’s Minds in Motion team XXL and dancers from Winchester Greens led by the Latin Ballet’s Annie Gavino; vocal performances by University of Richmond’s Off the Cuff and the Thomas Jefferson High School choir; and instrumental music by harpist Ian McVoy, pianist Daniel Liebovic, and the George Wythe High School jazz band.
Generation Dream is sponsored by the Richmond Youth Peace Project, a joint project of the Richmond Peace Education Center and Drums No Guns.

Occupy Philly Activists Go to Trial, Maybe to Jail

By Michael Coard, 4/14/2012, news, opinion

On April 26, 2012, several defendants could be sent to prison for what they did outside a government facility on November 29th last year, prior to the police arriving and catching them in the act. Sounds like a gang of terrorists caught red-handed, doesn’t it? But words, like appearances, can be deceiving. These were no terrorists. And they weren’t gangsters either.…

Ed Forchion aka NJ Weedman, 4/25/2012, op-ed, news, politics

My Prosecution - On May 1st, 2012 I go on trial in Burlington County Superior Court before Judge Delehey. While most defendants are afraid; I’m looking forward to…

Not Everyone With an Illegal Gun Deserves Jail Time

By Michael Coard, 4/14/2012, news, opinion

Most Philadelphians believe that violent crime is the city’s biggest problem. Mere unlawful possession, you’d argue, is enough to warrant mandatory imprisonment. No probation. No fine.…

In response to a FOIA request on the Devontae Sandford case by freedom activist Roberto Guzman, the Wayne Countyprosecutor’s office failed to turn over copies of all the taped confessions of then 14 yr-old Devontae Sanford. For now throw out the fact that Devontae had no legal counsel at the time the tapes were made.

Mr. Guzman who is also a para-legal and works on…
