Message to Amanda Knox: Italian Food and Justice or The Black Guy Did Not Do It—You Did!

As I woke up this morning to images of a tearful Amanda Knox on The Early Show, my heart went out to her….initially. I’m prejudiced, in her favor, because she is a college student, and I am a college professor. She could have been any number of fresh-faced, intelligent young white girls I have taught over the years. Therefore, I felt sympathy for Knox and her distraught family. The Early Show report suggested a number of improprieties in the Italian system of justice, suggesting that if Knox were tried here, she would have gotten off. The Early Show is right, but for the wrong reason.

In researching the details on the case, I uncovered some little-known facts that the American media conveniently forgets to report. While the American media is not shy about revealing the gruesome details of the murder, it seems dumbstruck when it comes to the black men implicated in the case, and Knox’s unsuccessful attempt to pin the murder on them. As soon as I read this, Miss Knox lost all of my sympathy.

It seems to be a time-honored tradition for white women to blame black men for their crimes. Dare we forget the Susan Smith case? Smith avoided arrest by claiming that a black man killed her children. When white women want to cover their tracks, they immediately point their fingers at the group who is even more oppressed than they are: black men. Why? Because it usually works….for a little while at least. Black men have been so criminalized in America, that black skin alone is probable cause. I won’t go into the number of historical cases in which a white woman falsely cried rape by a black man to again, cover some other misdeed up, even if that misdeed was consensual sex with a black man. However, I will point out that Lindsay Lohan seems to be Amanda’s role model. When she was pulled over for drunk driving last year, she accused her black male friend of being the one behind the wheel!

This pattern is too pervasive to be ascribed as merely individual irresponsibility or malevolency. Somehow, someway, and somewhere, white women got the idea that black men are the “usual suspects,” so can we really blame them for taking advantage of the misconception? Or do we blame an America justice system that still seems designed to arrest “just us.”

Nice try, Amanda, but you forgot one thing: You aren’t in America! Europe doesn’t have your history. People are identified by nation of origin, not skin color. In addition, truly innocent people don’t try to pin a crime on another innocent person! This is the sad fact that made you a suspect in the first place! When you told law enforcement that your friend Patrick Diya Lumumba killed your roommate, which led to his arrest, but not one bit of evidence was found that he was at the scene, it made the Italian police question why you would make such a claim about a friend! If you didn’t know who did it, just say so. No one was asking you to be a detective! When police discovered that you were indeed at the scene of the crime with your boyfriend and another black man (Rudy Guede), you then decided to pin it on Guede! I know blacks look alike to whites, but give me a break!

And brothas, all I gotta say to you is: Watch your back, boo! Now sistas, we are blindly and stupidly loyal to brothas, so much so that if a brotha commits a crime against a sista, we blame her!!! Debra Washington vs. Mike Tyson, Anita Hill vs. Clarence Thomas, and Rihanna vs. Chris Brown: Sistas are the biggest supporters of these brothas. On the other hand, that Barbie girl toy that you gain so much status from having can quickly become a deadly weapon. You just better hope she never gets in trouble, because if she does, you will be the first person she drops a dime on!

I have a heavy heart this morning, but not for Amanda. My heart is breaking because even before I did the netsearch, as soon as the two names were mentioned, I KNEW they were black. I knew they were black because Amanda said they committed the crime, and Guede was convicted and is awaiting appeal. And no one seems concerned about Guede at all. He says that Amanda and her boyfriend did it, and pretty much the courts agreed, so why the hell is he still behind bars?

This is a fairly easy multiple-choice test, because there’s only one answer.

Maybe I’ll plan a trip to Italy. I love Italian food and justice.

Here's another update: Amanda was not considered a suspect until police saw surveillance video of her and her boyfriend acting the fool as they bought lingerie in an adult store. They were so raucous that the store owner had to ask the couple to leave, and that's when he recognized Amanda. He thought the police might be interested in their apparent celebration. The police thought it mighty strange that anyone whose roommate was found murdered would be in such a celebratory mood.

Hey good to be able to join in your discussion. I happen to live in Italia and have quite a bit of information about this case. However, let me start out by saying, all three parties are somehow connected in the killing of Meredith. I don't know them personally, but here are my reasons.

Background on Amanda Knox and her boyfriend;
Prior to Amanda's arrival, she wrote a fictional story about the brutal rape of a woman who was held down by one brother and raped by the other. It was on her myspace profile. It has since been removed but of course the Italians found it and like myself, found it odd. Her boyfriend Rafaelle also had a strange proclamation on his myspace page. He stated that he had an obsession with serial killers. The police also seized a ton of Manga cartoons depicting sexual violence. So, it seems as if they had quite a bit in common. They also had a penchant for getting high on hashish, which is how they met Guede-a known drug dealer.

That said, consider this if you were in a foreign country, living with roomates and you came home and noticed a break-in with blood stains on the floor, what would you do? Call the police? check the rest of the house? Make sure your roommate is ok? Most of us would have done any number of those things. Nooooo, not Amanda. She was too smart, she took a shower and supposedly called her boyfriend. They just happily sat on the front porch together. Now, to quote my grandmother, "ain't that much love in the world!"

Sometime later, the cops arrived. Merediths two cellphones were found and they came to return them to her. Upon further inspection, they decided to break down her locked bedroom door, where they found her partially clothed body covered by a blanket. Of course they notified Amanda and her friend but they didn't seem to excited. Instead, they were outside hugging and kissing. Wow, I didn't know that someone could fall so deeply in love after only 4 days.

Well, after the evidence was gathered, there was a "brown fishy" left in the commode. The DNA from the crime scene linked and the commode was apparently from an unknown source at the time. Because she was raped, the police decided to question Raffaelle. He was called down to the station for interrogation. However, Amanda was too afraid to be alone, so she went with him. Hmmm, she wasn't afraid to take a shower in a house with a broken window and blood stains, why the new found fear? ehh? This is where she decided to do cartwheels and splits at the station. In the meantime, Raffaelle was busy throwing her under the bus. That was when they brought her in for interrogation and she decided to lie and say her boss did it. She changed her story more than a few times after that as well. She and Raffaelle maintain that they were so high until they are unsure of all of the events.

Guede claims that he met Meredith and she invited him over for "consensual" sex. He changed his story a few times as well. He claimed that after having sex, he had to go to the bathroom because of a bad kebab. He said he heard Meredith screaming and saw some Italian guy jump out of the window. He later said that while he was there, Amanda arrived and she and Meredith started arguing about some money. In order to be polite, he say's he turned up his ipod so as not to overhear their personal affairs. He later skipped town the next day. He was caught in Germany.

The lingerie deal occurred a couple of days after the murder but I believed it was before the cartwheels.

On a personal note, being a woman of color and an American makes me walk circumspectly while in another country. Because American women are stereotyped as being "easy", I closely watch the way I present myself. Everything from my style of dress, to my mannerisms are self-scrutinized daily. Grant it, I often have the problem of being misidentified as Brazillian, Morroccan or Ethiopian-who have their own set of stereotypes-but I realize that I must be careful. Most women realize this but I guess Amanda felt more that sense of white privilege that I am not afforded. She wrote a journal entry while in prison in which she describes herself as feeling "special" and mentioned that the police won't be able to "prove" that she was in the house. No innocent person would use the word "prove." Sorry for the long post.

Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were unanimously found guilty of the murder of Meredith Kercher because the evidence against them was overwhelming.

They repeatedly told the police a pack of lies in the days after Meredith's murder.

On 5 November 2007, Knox and Sollecito were confronted with proof that they had lied and were given another opportunity to tell the truth. However, they both chose to tell the police even more lies.

Sollecito's new alibi was shattered by computer forensic evidence and his mobile phone records.

Knox accused an innocent man, Diya Lumumba, of murdering Meredith despite knowing full well that he was completely innocent. She didn't recant her false and malicious allegation against Lumumba the whole time he was in prison. She admitted that it was her fault that Lumumba was in prison in an intercepted conversation with her mother.

Knox's account of what happened on 2 November 2007 is contradicted by her mobile phone records.

Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito both gave multiple conflicting alibis. Neither Knox nor Sollecito have credible alibis for the night of the murder despite three attempt each. At the trial, Sollecito refused to corroborate Knox's alibi that she was at his apartment.

Rudy Guede's bloody footprints led straight out of Meredith's room and out of the house. He didn't lock Meredith's door, remove his trainers, go into Filomena's room or the bathroom that Meredith and Knox shared.

He didn't scale the vertical wall outside Filomena's room or gain access through the window. The break-in was clearly staged. This indicates that somebody who lived at the cottage was trying to deflect attention away from themselves and give the impression that a stranger had broken in and killed Meredith.

Guede had no reason to stage the break-in and there was no physical evidence that he went into Filomena's room.

The scientific police found a mixture of Amanda Knox's DNA and Meredith's blood on the floor.

There was no physical evidence that Rudy Guede went into the blood-spattered bathroom. However, the scientific police found irrefutable proof that Knox and Sollecito tracked Meredith's blood into this bathroom.

Amanda Knox’s DNA was found mingled with Meredith’s blood in three different places in the bathroom: on the ledge of the basin, on the bidet, and on a box of Q Tips cotton swabs. Knox's DNA and Meredith's blood had united into one single streak on the basin and bidet which means they were deposited simultaneously.

Sollecito left a visible bloody footprint on the blue bathmat.

According to two imprint experts, the woman's bloody shoeprint on the pillow under Meredith's body matched Knox's foot size. The bloody shoeprint was incompatible with Meredith's shoe size.

Knox's and Sollecito's bare bloody footprints were revealed by luminol in the hallway. Knox’s DNA and Meredith’s DNA was found mixed together in one of the bloody footprints.

An abundant amount of Raffaele Sollecito's DNA was found on Meredith's bra clasp. Sollecito must have applied considerable pressure to the clasp in order to have left so much DNA. The hooks on the clasp were damaged which confirms that Sollecito had gripped them tightly.

Amanda Knox's DNA was found on the handle of the double DNA knife and a number of independent forensic experts - Dr. Patrizia Stefanoni, Dr. Renato Biondo and Professor Francesca Torricelli - categorically stated that Meredith’s DNA was on the blade.

Sollecito knew that Meredith's DNA was on the blade which is why he twice lied about accidentally pricking her hand whilst cooking.

The defence experts were unable to prove that there had been any contamination. Alberto Intini, head of the Italian police forensic science unit, pointed out that unless contamination has been proved, it does not exist.

Amanda Knox voluntarily admitted that she involved in Meredith's murder in her handwritten note to the police on 6 November 2007. She stated on at least four separate occasions that she was at the cottage when Meredith was killed.

There is a war going on in these streets and as we just celebrated the birthday of Malcolm X, I would hate to know what he would think about the lack of response of our young women and men being killed in these streets by thug ass murderous cops and thug ass murderous criminals in our communities. Children don't feel safe walking to school let alone going to school and yet there has been very little response from the community to meet the security needs. Union City cops shoot a brother 8 times in the back of the head and we ain't heard nothing from the people about it in corporate media.
