In 1972 and 1974, Ramsey Muniz, then a lawyer, former college football player, and long time civil rights activist put the Chicano Movement squarely on the electoral map of Texas running as the La Raza Unida Party candidate for governor, polling an astounding 7% of the vote as a third party candidate.
During those dark days of government repression of the American Indian Movement, the Black Panther Party, the Brown Berets and other protest movements, Muniz was repeatedly targeted for criminal prosecutions that eventually put him in prison with a life sentence. At his trial, the government withheld evidence about an informer until just before the case went to the jury and after they'd already spirited him well away from the trial.
Please use the following links to email the Obama campaign and ask them to meet with Irma Muniz to discuss a pardon for Ramsey and to demand a commission of inquiry to review whether he was set up and whether he received a fair trial.
