McCain’s Often Used “Patriotic” Story Line Falls Flat in Face of Facts

by Scotty Reid

The Republican Party since the days of Reagan has always tried to portray themselves in a patriotic light, using the stars and stripes as a political prop and never shy about exploiting the service of American troops. John McCain has always been quick to make his Vietnam experience as a P.O.W a central part of his campaign. Never mind that he said he was doing “Caesar’s work” as opposed to what? The work of Jesus Christ? I actually agree with John McCain in that the… Continue

Reported Voter Purging and Obama T-shirts and Buttons

by Scotty Reid

The independent news outlet Veracifier reported that there are reports of voter purging of African Americans and Latinos. Are we in for another election debacle like we saw in Florida 2000 and Ohio 2004? Will the Republicans still yet another election in a year of projected record voter turnout?

McCain Tied To Lobbyist At Center Of Banking Scandal While New Ad Smears Obama

by Scotty Reid

While John McCain has produced yet another blatantly false smear ad trying to link Obama to corruption in Illinois, only information is coming forth that shows McCain's links to people at the center of the current banking scandal. Not is Slim Johnny McCain ready to smear Obama, but the new ad smears Illinois politicians that… Continue

Despite Republican Claims, Racism Very Much Alive In America

by Scotty Reid

Stanford University, Yahoo News and the Associated Press conducted a study/poll about how much racism may play a part in the election this year. The poll acknowledges what Republicans disingenuously claim, that racism has been all but eliminated in the United States. One racism denier who is an Internet talk host said, “You have to look far and wide to find racism in the United States” and “The only racism I see is the racism of militant blacks”.…

Are Professional Atheletes Not Entitled To Freedom Of Speech?

by Scotty Reid

It seems comments by Josh Howard of the Dallas Mavericks has ruffled some patriotic feathers. The NBA forward was attending an event sponsored by Alan Iverson and made comments about the national anthem as it was being played that has some sports commentators calling for his punishment.

Mark Cuban had a more measured response and stated: "I have explained to him that cell phone cameras are not your friend and that what you think you… Continue

Scary Black Men and Little Old White Ladies - McCain's Attack Ad

by Scotty Reid

John McCain and Sarah Palin are at it again with another racial attack ad. I noted in an earlier blog post that McCain/Palin's attack ad "Ready To Smear" carries a subtle message that paint's Barrack Obama as a Black Man attacking a white woman. FactCheck.org which was cited in the ad then pointed out that the ad was lying about their findings on where less… Continue

Republicans Want To Block The Democrat's Effort to Lift Ban on Coastal Drilling

After the 2000 elections, the Republicans held both the Office of the Presidency and both houses of Congress and for the six long years they were in control, they did nothing to help solve the energy needs of the country. Instead, what Americans got was Dick Cheney's closed door meetings with Energy executives of which the public still has no clue as to what went on behind those closed doors. We know that deregulation and rarely prosecuted corporate corruption helped lead to the crisis we see… Continue

Condi Rice Says "I Never See Anyone Who Looks Like Me"

Scotty Reid

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice the second Black person to hold the position reportedly told a group of professors and administrators "I 'Rarely See Somebody Who Looks Like Me". When did Condi Rice wake up in realize that she is a token negro in the Bush Administration. I respect all that Rice has been able to accomplish, what I do not respect is that she worked to close doors that were made open to her through… Continue

"Some in jury pool can't put aside Simpson's past"

By LINDA DEUTSCH, AP Special Correspondent

LAS VEGAS – With other prospective jurors listening, a woman lectured O.J. Simpson on his behavior as a celebrity Tuesday and declared, "I felt he got away with murder."

Like others questioned for service in Simpson's robbery-kidnap trial, the woman said she would try to be fair. But she became increasingly adamant, disclosing the disenchantment of someone familiar with Simpson's triumphs and disappointed in his fall from…

O. J. Simpson Jury Selection Raises Issue of Race

by Scotty Reid

The jury selection for O.J. Simpson's armed robbery trial is underway and defense lawyers have raised the issue of race.

Charles D. Jones, lawyer for Simpson's co-defendant Clarence "C.J" Stewart said the jury pool "was not representative of the county". He questioned whether the predominately white Las Vegas jury pool could "fairly deliberate the fate of the two black defendants". Blacks make up around ten percent of Clark county's population and Jones argued… Continue

Does Spike Lee Get Last Word In Clint Eastwood Spat?

Does Spike Lee get the last word in his filmmakers spat with Hollywood legendary actor turned producer/director Clint Eastwood? Spike Lee heavily criticized Eastwood for his two WWII films on Iwo Jima that failed to show the role of black soldiers in the Pacific theater of the war.

The two filmmakers traded jabs with each other through the media with Clint Eastwood once telling Spike Lee to “shut his face”. Spike Lee whose WWII film "Miracle at St. Anna" tells the story of an… Continue

Watermelon Basketballs, Gold Chains & Old Spice Swagger

Download MP3

Charles Lowman of NuVibe Radio joins us tonight to discuss the Syrius Institute of Learning - Dominican Republic which is seeking "to provide supplemental education to under-privileged children and to promote sustainability through adult education programs.". If you would like to contribute to this fund raising campaign you can find it on indiegogo where you will receive a thank you gift tailored to your contribution.

What does Watermelon Basketballs and Gold Chains have to do with deodorant? The Black Talk Media Project is asking that question. We expected suspected racist white people to defend the Old Spice commercial which aired during the NBA Finals last night but while not surprising, African-AMERICANS are failing to recognize the racial undertones of the not only the commercial but its placement.

In political news, a recent SCOTUS case resulted in the further erosion of so-called "civil rights". The US Supreme Court has ruled in a 5-4 decision in the case Salinas v. Texas, that your right to remain silent can be used against you in a criminal trial should you be charged with the crime for which you are being questioned by police. Texas Prosecutors in the case argued that Salinas’ silence during a police interview prior to his arrest was a “very important piece of evidence” and that only a guilty person would have remained silent when questioned about his connection to a crime. Justice Samuel Alito wrote in the majority opinion that Salinas “was required to assert the privilege in order to benefit from it,” even though a person questioned while under arrest could not have his silence used against him.

Stop supporting enslavers and upholding the system of slavery

Download MP3
Tonight we want to share a audio clip from a speech Michelle Alexander gave to a church in 2011. In the clip Alexander, a legal scholar who worked as an attorney for the ACLU who worked on racial profiling issues, tells of her awakening to the fact that people who were comparing the legal system today to the system of slavery that was allegedly abolished in the United States.

We also want to share news about the enslaved prisoners who are planning to go on possible hunger strikes and work stoppages at Pelican Bay State Prison in California. According to an attorney, The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has already started punishing the enslaved for even thinking about a rebellion against the system of slavery in that state.

Tonight we also profile another past Abolitionist. Harriet Tubman may not be considered by some as an abolitionist but she certainly was.

World Star Hip-Hop creator asked to stop exploiting minors and the mentally challenged

Download MP3

World Star Hip-Hop has built a media platform that has become a clearinghouse for the worst of “Urban America” according to a recent Change.org petition created by Supreme Understanding of Supreme Design Publishing.

The petition says, "There are some things that we all should know are wrong. Things like sexually exploiting minors or the mentally ill. The administrators of WorldStarHipHop.com apparently do not share these standards of human decency."

Supreme Understanding will join us tonight along with Scotty Reid of the Black Talk Media Project and members of the Militant Mind Movement on Militant Minded Radio to discuss this issue and why the Black community should be involved in this campaign to stop the exploitation of our most vulnerable people.

240,000 turn out to protest bus fare and police brutality in Brazil

DOWNLOAD MP3

Massive protests have been going on in Brazil for over a week as the 99% take to the streets in protest over the raising of bus fare in that poor see as means for the rich to pay for a sports complex. A video of eight cops giving a reporter a Rodney King style beating caused even more Brazilians to take to the streets.

There has been very little in-depth coverage by the mainstream of PFC Bradley Manning's trial. "Bradley Edward Manning is a United States Army soldier who was arrested in May 2010 in Iraq on suspicion of having passed classified material to the website WikiLeaks." We had an opportunity to catch up with one reporter who has been providing in-depth coverage and you can tune in today to hear our interview with journalist Alexa O'Brien. You can follow Alexa's reporting on her website and follow her on Twitter.

In Spartanburg, SC, a group of families confronted Sheriff Chuck Wright over the cases of men who were killed where it was ruled self defense. One mother, Darlene Smith questioned Wright over her son's case who was shot in the head along with another man. Michael Deangelo Gentry-Hill and Darren Hill were both shot in the head allegedly while attempting to break into an apartment. Neither of the two were armed when Douglas Williams confronted them outside his apartment instead of waiting till the men entered the apartment or allowing the police who were called to get there and investigate the alleged crime.
