Before most decisions are made I think it would bode us all well to sit back and first do the math. Like any other problem, Black youth unemployment is in need of a comprehensive solution. Every Black pundit, talking head and national organization keeps talking about it, but with all the talk and finger pointing the endgame is always the same. Nothing gets done.

This cause was launched 8 days ago and more than 350 people have pledged to share Saving America's Black Boys with their network. The goal is 1,000 people who pledge to share. Black boys can grow to be business men and leaders or advocates in our community. It makes business sense to do our best to reduce the plight of young brothers, and pave a way for their future success!…

The urban landscape in America offers few, if any true economic opportunities presently to counteract the scourge of youth crime, particularly drug sales. Most businesses in these urban neighborhoods are either small sole proprietorships or family partnerships. Therefore they cannot afford to hire additional staff in many cases. There must be a vehicle created that provides the youth with alternatives that gives them the same freedom to work when they please, earn not just minimum wage, but a wage directly related to the amount of work they put in. Streets University provides such an opportunity.
Streets University is for Black youth ages 12~17 who already exhibit hustling skills. In this program youth learn year-round to master the skills of marketing, public relations and sales. Right now in urban communities throughout America, youth in this age category are already using these skills in order to sell a product which is unhealthy and illegal. During the 1980’s the Reagan administration began the war on drugs and it has been continued up to this day by the present administration. When there is no viable program or opportunity to say yes to, then how can we ask anyone to say no?
Streets University was created to provide enterprising Black youth 12-17 from disadvantaged neighborhoods with a legitimate means to making money in a market economy. Our objective is to provide our students with an understanding of intermediate business concepts, target markets, salesmanship; while providing them an opportunity to earn some money and learn about wealth-building through saving and investment. Our focus is on teaching youth about commissioned, residual and leveraged income which are true pathways to financial independence.
While working the field, we will help youth involved to meet individual business owners and professionals that can help us provide even more encouragement to continue their aspirations of reaching their individual goals and endeavors. If interested in being a 'Mentor" to a young person working the program, send me a message so we can connect.

There will be no justice for the family of Ramarley Graham unless another indictment against NYPD Officer Richard Haste is issued by another grand jury. Ramarley Graham is a teen who was shot in his grandmother’s bathroom while allegedly trying to flush a small amount of marijuana down the toilet. A Bronx judge tossed the indictment of the officer who shot and killed Graham claiming he had a gun but none was found. Citing mistakes…

The inquiry into the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya by conservatives to this point has been little more than an expression of white supremacy and political theater. What the inquiry is saying is that only "American" lives matter and not the lives of the thousands killed in Libya or those that are still being killed and displaced from their homes due to ethnic cleansing by forces backed by the United States. The…

Streets University Interview:
Thanks for the kind words, good soul, and would welcome learning more about your good works and, more importantly, how we can work together for a greater good.
On Feb. 14, 2012 I addressed our local city council regarding policies that would help Black businesses win part of the $60M+ of our tax dollars spent every "year" for procurement, contracts and purchases made by the city. By city code there are responsibilities that are not being complied with by city employees and have not been done so since 2005.

On March 27, 2012 I went back again because there was no follow-up as stated. In an effort to taint my demand for compliance, an 'interim' city manager says the policy is superfluous and instead of complying; he going to request it be appealed. He basically want things to stay the way they are. How are they you ask?

In 2003 our city spent over $94M and out of that number only 3.13% went to so-called DBEs; which includes white females. In essence, close to 97% of tax paid purchases are made to white males. This is how they make care and house payments, pay for 'their' kids college and education, it allows them to take nice family vacations every year while Black folks languish in unemployment and welfare lines.

"As we face our collective economic future, we can look at it in one of two ways: As a speeding train about to run over us or as a train we are about to board and take a nice long trip. What’s it going to be?"
