Republican vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan has denied ever requesting and taking federal stimulus money for his state.
In 2010, he told a radio host “I’m not one who votes for something and then writes to the government to ask them to send us money,” Ryan blasted stimulus funds as "wasteful spending" and that he was against funding programs aimed at creating green jobs.
However, in 2009 Ryan signed letters to Energy Secretary Steven Chu and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis requesting funds for a non-profit Wisconsin energy company stating in the letter that it would help create thousands of new jobs, save energy and reduce greenhouse gas admissions. Because of his request, Wisconsin Energy Conservation received $20.3 million to help homes and businesses become more energy efficient.
