Initial Reports - Man killed by police for trying to cash a check in Norfolk, Va!

An officer opened fire on a vehicle in the parking lot of the Wells Fargo at Colonial Avenue and West 21st Street Monday afternoon, after the driver reportedly used his vehicle as a weapon. The driver, identified as Joshua Johnson, 22, of W. 27th Street in Norfolk, was shot and killed. His female passenger, Virgie May Hairston, 21, was arrested and charged with conspiring to commit or assist in a larceny. The couple tried to cash the check in the drive-through around 2:45 p.m. Police say the teller at the Wells Fargo called 911 to report the two suspects were attempting to pass a bad check. Police said the officer in front of the car lost sight of the officer on the trunk, and fired the fatal shots. Eleven bullet holes were in the windshield. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.

There are few media reports at this time about the alleged police murder of 26-yr-old Amos G. Smith who was shot eight times in the back of the head in early March of this year by Union City, California police officers who claimed he had a gun and pointed it at them.

The two officers involved claim they were pulling over Mr. Smith in a routine traffic stop (Driving While Black?) and that he pointed a gun at them at which point they shot the young man 8 times in the back of the head. I mean really, was he pointing the gun at them over his shoulder while facing away from them? There has been no report of a gun being recovered from the scene.



Smith’s family and fellow church members described him as someone who was active in the church working with youth and worked really hard saving his money to buy an 18 wheeler truck after obtaining his Class A license. Court of Appeals has still not yet scheduled oral argument. The latest

entry on the docket shows that the Court of Appeals sent Sanford's

attorney a letter a few weeks ago asking for copies of some transcripts.

I suspect once the court receives those transcripts, oral argument will

follow, probably in July or August, after which we will hold a

demonstration calling for his release outside the courthouse. After much

In the State of Illinois "Andrea's Law" took affect creating

Illinois first and only murder registry act Under the provisions of

House Bill 263. On January 1, 2012 this law took affect which requires

inmates that were released and served their entire sentence and in some

cases were off parole but released from the Illinois Department of

Corrections since 2002 to register with their local police to be placed

on the murder registry act for ten years. In addition the people

released under this act must pay 100.00 dollars each year when its their

appointed time to register. Failure to registry can land someone in

prison for much as three years.
